Hotel Vorab

Hotel Vorab – From the pension to today

How it all began:

The Hotel Vorab was founded in 1905 by Jacob and Fida Januth-Bärtsch and has since developed into a respected hotel in Flims.
The beginnings were modest, but thanks to the tireless commitment and dedication of the Januth-Bärtsch family, the hotel has been continuously expanded and modernized.

In the early years, the hotel was a popular retreat for travelers, and during the two world wars it served as accommodation for military personnel.

After the death of Jacob Januth-Bärtsch in 1915, his widow Fida took over the management of the hotel and faced the challenges of the time with remarkable determination.
She expanded the hotel’s offerings by building a bowling alley in the garden and continually adapting the rooms to the needs of the guests.

Fida’s children, Jacob and Agnes, also contributed to the continuation of the family business and helped to stabilize the hotel in difficult times.

The change of time

In the following decades, the Hotel Vorab underwent numerous renovations and conversions to meet the increasing demands of guests.
Under the management of Hartmann and Menga Meiler, who took over the hotel in the 1960s, the hotel was further modernized.

A major construction project was the remodeling and expansion of the restaurant, as well as the creation of new guest rooms and facilities that improved the comfort and amenities for guests.

The young Jeremias and Ursula Meiler-Erni family and their two sons, Gian Reto and Marcel, moved into the hotel on the 3rd floor.

Change of ownership

Jeremias’ parents, Hartmann and Menga, had meanwhile retired from the business.
They moved their residence from Crest to the land of their former farm in Sulom.

In 1979/80, Georg and Mirta Meiler-Eichholzer built the Hotel Curtgin. Subsequently, the brothers Georg and Jeremias parted company on the best of terms.
The general partnership was dissolved and the sole proprietorship J. and U. Meiler was created, with Georg and Mirta running the Hotel Curtgin and Jeremias and Ursula taking over the Vorab.

Numerous events were held in the dining room of the Hotel Vorab, including club events, men’s choir and music evenings and ski club events. The room was also often transformed into a festively decorated ballroom for various balls, such as Easter, Whitsun, market, St. Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Eve balls.

And today?

Today, Hotel Vorab is run by the third and fourth generation of the Meiler family, Gian Reto and Beatrice Meiler.
Since 1997, they have developed the hotel and the adjoining Pizzeria Veneziana with great commitment and creativity.
The pizzeria is known for its wood-fired oven, in which the pizzas are freshly prepared, and offers a cozy atmosphere for locals and guests alike.

The Hotel Vorab attaches great importance to individual guest offers, including flexible hotel and restaurant services, creative culinary ideas from the kitchen team and regular musical events.

The Meiler family and their dedicated team pride themselves on creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which guests from near and far can feel at home.
Gian Reto and Beatrice Meiler’s daughter is now also working in the business.

With an optimistic view of the future, the Hotel Vorab continues to focus on tradition, hospitality and innovation in order to offer its guests unforgettable experiences.
